There’s courage in James Randi’s beard.
Imagine if, your entire life, you had lived outwardly pretending to be something you weren’t. Imagine hiding important parts of your personality from friends and colleagues, who either hadn’t guessed the truth or were too polite to pry and mention it. Imagine doing so for eighty-one years.
Imagine that you’re James Randi.
Today, James Randi made a public announcement via his Swift Blog that he is a homosexual. Having grown up in a culture that was extremely intolerant of homosexuality, to the point of hostility, Randi had never thought to make this public before. That he did is, I feel, a testament to the power of coming out — ultimately, this is his business, and he in no way was required to share this information publicly; by doing so he is making a very public statement, and adding his name to the large and ever growing list of incredible people who happen to be gay.
So here’s to you, James Randi! Hopefully your public announcement will give young LGBT people the courage to be themselves and not let the prejudice of others dictate how they live their lives.
And make no mistake — you will have made a difference here. After all: You’re James freakin’ Randi!

James Randi is working with the government!! He is totally just saying that to hide the truth!!! He’s really straight, but is claiming to be gay to undermine our civil liberties and turn this into a police state!!!!! The signs are all there!!!! Just look on the interwebs, all you sheeple are missing the blantently obvious signs of a cover-up!!!! Wake up to the truth!!!!
